Hay Design was hired to design the renovation of an old 2 storey log cottage in the areas of the main level living spaces, enlarging the kitchen and master ensuite bathroom. The project objectives were to create a more functional ergonomic and large spacious kitchen and design a more functional master ensuite and install a larger shower and vanity area. We also wanted to maximize the natural light and view to the waterfront throughout the main level maintaining the character of this fine log cottage.
Constraints of the project were with removing a solid concrete and brick fireplace/chimney that ran from the foundation through the roof of the second story. Having to patch and repair the whole from the fireplace/chimney location. Relocating windows and had to ensure the old window locations could be patched to blend with the existing log walls. Installing millwork cabinets against the curved log walls.
