Hay Design was retained to lead the move management and specify the complete interior finishes for Mxi Technologies’ retrofit of an existing building (12,000 sq. ft.) in Ottawa, ON. Hay Design coordinated the existing finishes and furniture with the new finishes to ensure that the complete design represented Mxi Technologies’ personality and values while creating a functional and aesthetically pleasing environment. Mxi Technologies is a unified team of inspired people working together, Hay Design was to incorporate the company’s core values of openness, transparency, teamwork into the design. All colours and finishes need flow from one space into another, with no lines or separations between departments creating unity and connection for which we selected and created custom carpet inserts to reflect the client’s new brand. The carpet design delineated different types of working areas and created visual interest within the space. A unique design challenge in this project was creating “squad” stations for teams of employees to work in. Hay Design designed innovative screen style partitions made from wire that evoked airplane patterns. These screens helped visually separate the squads without too much segregation.
Mxi desired a unique naming system that would be fun and original while re-affirming their company branding. HDI played off airport codes such as YOW to identify each room and designed frosted film signage for all boardroom and squad station’s glass sidelights. All of these elements came together to create a unique, fun, modern and inviting workspace for their valued team.
