Hay Design was retained to renovate the clients main house and the ice house from the 1800’s that are on the property. Upon starting renovations, it was determined that the house had to be demolished due to the poor foundation structure. As this was to be the summer house for the family, they decided that a complete new build and renovation was the only solution in the end. The house consists of 6 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms, art studio, office, gym, large kitchen with walk-in pantry, dining room, living room, basement living room, basement bar area, games room, movie theatre, large porch off the back of the house, and many storage areas/ closets, and a wine cellar all in the main house.
Project objectives were to preserve some of the original building materials/ ephemera and character of the original house and incorporate it into the new design/build and create a unique custom design/details throughout the house. The client desired separate areas for him and her, several guest bedrooms and fun, common areas to host in. Hay Design wanted to create one of a kind spaces and most important maximize the view to the lake on all 3 sides of the house.
Some constraints of the project were there were several customized details to coordinate. The clients also frequently travelled out of town so communication was key throughout the design and construction process. There were several delays in construction pushing back the move in date.
